Q. What is the Electric Load Detection (ELD) in Honda vehicles?
Source: Honda America TSB, 05-034
Electric Load Detection (ELD) is an electricity load sensor. It is like the home electricity meter that measures how much electricity is consumed.
ELD measures electricity consumed in your vehicle, notifies the vehicle computer (ECM) of such usage. Based on ELD' reporting, the ECM controls electricity generation by the alternator.
The alternator will generate more electricity if you turn on music, air conditioner, head light and other electrical devices. Thus, electricity could range from 12.6V~14.8V depending upon electricity load required by your vehicle.
It is important that if you install a separate electrical device, you have to make sure that such electricity load is measured by ELD.
