Q. How often should I change automatic transmission fluid (ATF)?
ATF change interval depends on your own vehicle. The best is to refer to your vehicle's Maintenance Schedule.
But normally, after the first 100,000km, it is recommended to change automatic transmission fluid (ATF) in every 40,000km~80,000km or in two to three years.
Please note some automatic transmissions are very sensitive to ATF. For example, genuine Honda ATF-DW1 is strongly recommended in all Honda vehicles. ATF-Z1 has been replaced by ATF-DW. Honda Civic Maintenance Schedule says
"Replace at 60,000 miles (96,000 km) or 3 years, then every 40,000 miles (64,000 km) or 2 years. If you drive at high speed in high temperatures [above 95°F (35°C)], the transmission fluid should be changed every 24,000 miles (40,000 km) or 2 years, whichever comes first"
For CVT, please note CVT fluid should be used and automatic transmission and CVT fluids are not compatible.
